Dental implants are basically titanium false roots used to support single or multiple teeth.

Implants are made of surgical grade titanium, which is very biocompatible allowing excellent healing (‘osseointegration’) of the bone around the implant.

Once this has occurred the implant can be used to support a single crown or as part of a larger restoration to replace several missing teeth (either as a fixed restoration, a bridge, or to help support a denture).

The final result should be stable and strong and it is possible to achieve excellent aesthetics. The long term success rates with implants are excellent as long as the cases are well chosen and planned and the maintenance is very good.
